Founded in 1904, the Association of French Archivists (AAF) today brings together over 3,000 archive professionals from both the public and private sectors.

Aware of the challenge that mastering documentary production and the information it contains represents in today's world, and eager to make the profession's voice heard in the face of the challenges it faces, the Association's purpose is to study issues of interest to archives and archivists, and to promote and defend the interests of the profession by all appropriate means.
It thus defines itself as a permanent body for reflection, training and initiative in the service of the sources of our memory, both those of yesterday and those of tomorrow.
