Development – Renovation & Housing visit guide
The challenges of planning and living conditions the focus of debate

Local authorities are already involved in converting wasteland (brownfields, commercial and hospital wastelands…) with dedicated funding renewed over many years. Going forward, new standards of urban development have become the norm, requiring that every solution be leveraged to ‘rebuild towns on towns’, to optimise usage of all existing buildings, to renovate, redevelop, recycle and continue to make towns and cities places and areas that are constantly being reinvented.
Indicative topics that will be addressed in this area:
- Town planning and new urban styles (15-minute cities, multi-centre town planning…)
- Promoting use of infill and adding more stories
- Multiple functions and mixed usage of existing buildings
- Low-carbon and sustainable building
- Energy retrofit
- Redevelopment of wasteland and urban reconstruction
- Nature in town, coping with climate change (‘islands of coolness’ …)
