PCE Calzado
Contexte
PCE Calzado: a poured-in-place impact-absorbing sports surface made from pre-consumer offcuts of new shoe soles. This PU-bound two-layer system meets EN 1177 (up to 3 m fall height) and replaces virgin EPDM with a top layer that halves material cost and installs 50% faster. It helps local authorities, even rural ones, keep safe, permeable, wheelchair-accessible surfaces for street workout areas, multisport courts and playgrounds.
Acteurs
Terraludis Systems is a French supplier of surfaces for sports areas and playgrounds, chaired by Christophe Mathelin and co-founded by Jonathan Corchero (20 years in impact-absorbing surfacing). It relies on a European supply chain: a Spanish recycler turns shoe-sole offcuts into granules, a resin manufacturer encapsulates them and supplies the PU binder, and local installers lay the surface for local authorities.
